A Message from Ken:
I WANT TO SPEAK ON MY WISH FOR THE NEXT COUNCIL.
THIS ELECTION AND INDEED RECENT COUNCIL MEETINGS HAVE BEEN DOWNRIGHT NASTY.
GUTTER POLITICS AT ITS BEST.
WHERE HAS ALL THE CIVILITY GONE THAT HAS BEEN A HALLMARK OF RICHMOND POLITICS FOR THE PAST DECADES?
GOOD HEALTHY DEBATE IS IMPORTANT FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE BUT CHARACTER ASSASSINATION AND FAKE NEWS, ESPECIALLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA HAS BECOME THE NORM.
ARE PEOPLE SO DESPERATE TO GET ELECTED THEY WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING?
ARE THESE THE PEOPLE YOU WANT ON COUNCIL??
I AM REMINDED OF A BETTER TIME WHEN RESPECT AND INTEGRITY WERE IMPORTANT PARTS OF A COUNCILLOR’S JOB DESCRIPTION.
MY WISH FOR THE NEXT COUNCIL IS THAT THEY RETURN TO OPERATING WITH RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER, CIVILTY AND CONSTRUCTIVE FACTUAL DEBATE.
I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS BIGGER THAN ANY ONE CANDIDATE BEING ELECTED OR UNELECTED.THIS IS ABOUT PUTTING RICHMOND’S FUTURE AHEAD OF ONE’S PERSONAL POLTICAL AMBITIONS
I WOULD ASK THAT YOU THE VOTERS SCRUTINIZE THE RESUMES OF ALL THE CANDIDATES AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE WORD INTEGRITY ANYWHERE ON THOSE RESUMES.
FOR THE GOOD OF RICHMOND. "
